What Heating Services do Heating Contractors offer?

You can rely on heating contractors for a wide range of services to keep your home warm and your heating system running efficiently.

You can count on them for everything from installing a brand-new furnace or heat pump to performing routine maintenance that keeps your system in top shape.

If your heater suddenly stops working, they can provide emergency repairs to restore warmth. They can also handle regular tune-ups to ensure efficiency and prevent unexpected breakdowns.

Common Heating Problems in Los Angeles and How to Spot Them Early

A failing heating system often displays early warning signs. Knowing these signs can help you fix issues early and avoid unexpected breakdowns.

How to identify some of the most common problems:

No Heat or Weak Heat

If your heater runs but blows cool or lukewarm air, check the thermostat settings and air filter first. A dirty filter blocks airflow and lowers performance. If these aren’t working, the furnace or heat pump may have a deeper issue.

Strange Noises

Heating systems should operate quietly. The sound of a banging, rattling, or squeaking motor indicates an internal problem. These require prompt attention.

Frequent Cycling

If the heater turns on and off frequently, this is called short cycling. It can result from a clogged filter, a faulty thermostat, or a system sized improperly for your home. The system wears out fast and wastes energy when short-cycled.

Yellow Pilot Light

Gas furnace pilot lights should be steady blue. A yellow or flickering flame signals a possible carbon monoxide leak. Immediately turn off the furnace and contact a professional.

Rising Energy Bills

If your heating bills increase without higher usage, your system might lose efficiency. Aging or poorly maintained heaters consume more energy to retain warmth.

Notice any of these signs? Contact a professional heating contractor. Early detection leads to easier, cheaper repairs and keeps your home warm and safe.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the signs that my heating system needs emergency repair?

Signs of an emergency include no heat, loud noises like banging or scraping, a yellow pilot light in gas furnaces, or the smell of gas or burning. Call a professional immediately if you notice any of these.

What is included in a professional heater tune-up or maintenance service?

A heater tune-up includes a system inspection, cleaning of internal parts, thermostat check, air filter replacement, safety control testing, lubrication of moving parts, and performance adjustments. Technicians also test for carbon monoxide leaks and confirm safety compliance.

What should I look for when choosing a heating contractor in Los Angeles?

Choose a licensed, bonded, and insured contractor. Check reviews on trusted platforms and confirm transparent pricing. Look for experience with your system type, emergency service availability, and warranty options. Contact the California State Licensing Board directly to verify contractor credentials and licensing status.

Is it more cost-effective to install a new heating unit rather than continue with repairs?

Replace the system if repairs cost more than half the price of replacing the unit. This is if it is 15–20 years old, or breaks down often. Rising energy bills despite regular service are another sign that replacement may save money in the long run.

If the heating system fails to start, what steps can I take to troubleshoot the issue?

Confirm that your thermostat is switched to “heat” mode and set it above the current room temperature. Then, inspect the circuit breaker for any disruptions and ensure the furnace’s power switch is on. If your heater is still not working after these checks, it’s probably time to call a technician.

I was called to a home to diagnose a low refrigerant issue in a Samsung two-head system. I arrived at the home and performed a thorough inspection of the system. I found that the system had a low refrigerant charge, which was causing the system to not cool properly. I diagnosed the issue and recommended a repair. The customer agreed to the repair, and I scheduled an appointment for the next day. I arrived at the customer's home the next day and performed the repair. I replaced the refrigerant and tested the system to ensure it was cooling properly. The customer was happy with the repair, and I left the home satisfied that I had provided a quality service.

I am a professional HVAC technician who works for a local Affordable Heating and Air company. I recently completed a job at a mobile home that was equipped with an inverter technology system. Inverter technology is known for its energy efficiency, but it is also vulnerable to electrical grid interference and blackouts. To ensure the safety of the system, I recommended adding a surge protector to the unit. Surge protectors are designed to protect electrical equipment from damage caused by electrical surges and spikes. In this case, the mobile home was located in an area prone to electrical issues, and the likelihood of surges was higher. The customer agreed to my recommendation and paid a 50% deposit upon arrival and the remaining 50% upon completion of the job.

I am a highly skilled home service professional. I recently completed a job on a 2002 Trane 80% furnace located in a basement. The client reported that the system stopped working and that the thermostats had gone blank. Upon inspection, I found that the thermostats had no display. I also noticed that the furnace was unplugged, but once I plugged it back in, it cycled.
I found that the inducer motor started up and sounded normal, but the pressure switch was hanging loose but still closing properly. I also noticed that the igniter was energized and glowing, but it failed to open despite confirming that there was gas supply present.

I also found that the gas valve was not opening the main issue, the blower motor was leaking oil, and the heat exchanger was tested with a flame and no visible cracks were detected.

I recommended that the best long-term solution is to replace the blower motor, gas valve, and igniter, but the customer understands the risks and wishes to proceed with repairs u

Los Angeles, CA - The warranty call was for a pvc pipe that was leaking. The pipe was connected to another pvc using a rubber coupling. The coupling was not tight enough, so I removed the zip tie and attached two more to ensure a secure connection. I ran the pipe for about 10-13 minutes, and there was no leak.

I am a skilled professional that works for a Affordable Heating and Air company. I recently completed a job at a client's home where the system was blowing too hard, causing discomfort to the client's eyes, and the nanny reported that it was not cooling properly.
Upon inspection, I found that the 2015 York package unit was set to fan only mode at the thermostat. The filter was extremely dirty, causing restriction and a whistling sound at the return intake. I called for cooling, and the system kicked on and began cooling. On a 72°F day, the system delivered a 16°F temperature split.

The blower wheel was dirty, the condenser coils were dirty, and the electrical compartment was covered in dirt. I recommended performing a full system cleaning, including the blower wheel, condenser coils, and electrical compartment. I also recommended replacing the filter.

The client agreed to the recommendations, and I completed the job successfully.

The customer called for cooling, but the system did not produce proper cooling. I hooked up temperature and refrigeration gauges and found that the refrigerant R-410A reading was 72/216, which is very low for this type of refrigerant.

I found that the system has a refrigerant leak somewhere. A leak check is required to locate the leak and determine if it can be repaired or needs replacement. The system is from 2015 and no valid warranty remains.

I recommended performing a nitrogen leak check to locate the leak and evaluate if the component can be repaired or needs replacement. As a temporary band-aid option, we can add leak sealant and recharge the system with the missing refrigerant. However, this repair cannot be guaranteed or warranted, since the actual location of the leak is unknown.

The best option is to replace the system due to its age, condition, and lack of warranty. Maintenance has been minimal: the filter is dirty, and the system overall is dirty and needs cleaning.
