LADWP customers may be eligible, subject to program availability, for $1,000 to $1,250 per ton on qualifying central ducted, split, and packaged heat pump systems, or $1,500 to $2,500 per ton on qualifying ductless mini-split and multi-split systems that serve the entire home.
These increased rates apply to qualifying equipment purchased and installed on or after November 1, 2025, and the amount depends on the AHRI-matched system’s SEER2 and HSPF2 ratings. Qualifying central air conditioning systems receive $100 to $120 per ton. Burbank Water and Power offers $1,000 per ton up to $2,500 for standard customers, and up to $5,000 for income-qualified residents and affordable housing providers.
SCE offers a $75 smart thermostat enrollment bill credit, with up to $125 total available through ongoing participation. The federal Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit (Section 25C) applied only to improvements made through December 31, 2025 and is not available for 2026 installations.

Yes. Modern heat pumps operate efficiently at temperatures far below anything a Southern California winter produces. A properly sized heat pump provides both heating and cooling in a single system and, subject to program availability, may qualify for LADWP rebates of $1,000 to $1,250 per ton on qualifying central ducted systems, or $1,500 to $2,500 per ton on qualifying ductless mini-split systems that serve the entire home.
Set your HVAC system to recirculation mode to limit outdoor air intake, upgrade to MERV 13 or higher filters if your system supports them, and schedule a professional duct cleaning if smoke has entered your home. Affordable Heating and Air also installs whole-home air purifiers, such as iWave and REME HALO, for continuous protection against wildfire smoke and other airborne pollutants.
As a general guide, if your system is under 10 years old and the repair costs less than $500, repair is usually the right choice. If the system is 15 or more years old and a repair would cost more than half the price of replacement, replacement typically makes better financial sense, especially with current LADWP heat pump rebates available to offset the cost. Upon arrival, I identified that the HVAC system was not cooling. The system in question was a three-ton Bryant unit using R-410A refrigerant, installed in 2024. Upon further inspection, I discovered that the condensation drain line was obstructed, causing the condensation pan to overflow with water. This overflow activated both safety switches, preventing the blower from operating. To temporarily resolve the issue, I removed the primary safety switch from the secondary drain line, allowing the system to blow cold air. Moving forward, I recommend clearing the condensation drain line and cleaning the coil to ensure proper water evacuation from the evaporator coil. Once adequate airflow is restored, the refrigerant charge should be verified and adjusted as necessary.

I completed the installation of a Carrier Comfort 4 TON Up To 15.2-18 SEER2 Inverter Heat Pump Condenser R454B, paired with a Carrier 4 TON 48K BTU Air Handler Unit Side Discharge R454B 115v & 230V Dual Voltage with Controller. The system includes a Carrier Wired Communicating Inverter WiFi Thermostat 2-Stage, ensuring efficient and smart home climate control. The installation also involved a bar type filter return grill, CAP GAS LINE, condenser pad, disconnect box, electrical power whip, and electrical breaker. Additionally, I installed a FAU power cord, flush line-set, supply-plenum, and SS2-SECONDARY SAFETY SWITCH. The existing air ducts were not replaced, and drywall repair costs are not included. The project included LA County permit and Title 24 HERS testing, sealing of supply registers, and insulation of the return cavity with duct board. A Senior Citizen Discount and $1000 Direct Division Discount were applied.
I carefully inspected the condensation line to identify any blockages or debris. Using specialized tools, I methodically blew out the line to ensure it was completely clear. This process involved inserting a thin, flexible tube into the line and applying compressed air to dislodge any obstructions. After ensuring the line was free of blockages, I checked for any leaks or damage and made necessary adjustments. The condensation line is now functioning optimally, ensuring efficient drainage and preventing potential water damage.
Recently, I completed a repair on a 4-year-old HVAC system. The homeowner reported issues with inconsistent heating and cooling. Upon inspection, I identified a malfunctioning thermostat and a clogged air filter as the primary problems. I replaced the thermostat with a modern, energy-efficient model and thoroughly cleaned the air filter. Additionally, I performed a comprehensive system check to ensure all components were functioning correctly. The repair was completed under a 30-day parts and labor warranty, and payment was structured as a 50% deposit upfront and 50% upon completion. The homeowner was pleased with the improved system performance and efficiency.
