LADWP customers may be eligible, subject to program availability, for $1,000 to $1,250 per ton on qualifying central ducted, split, and packaged heat pump systems, or $1,500 to $2,500 per ton on qualifying ductless mini-split and multi-split systems that serve the entire home.
These increased rates apply to qualifying equipment purchased and installed on or after November 1, 2025, and the amount depends on the AHRI-matched system’s SEER2 and HSPF2 ratings. Qualifying central air conditioning systems receive $100 to $120 per ton. Burbank Water and Power offers $1,000 per ton up to $2,500 for standard customers, and up to $5,000 for income-qualified residents and affordable housing providers.
SCE offers a $75 smart thermostat enrollment bill credit, with up to $125 total available through ongoing participation. The federal Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit (Section 25C) applied only to improvements made through December 31, 2025 and is not available for 2026 installations.

Yes. Modern heat pumps operate efficiently at temperatures far below anything a Southern California winter produces. A properly sized heat pump provides both heating and cooling in a single system and, subject to program availability, may qualify for LADWP rebates of $1,000 to $1,250 per ton on qualifying central ducted systems, or $1,500 to $2,500 per ton on qualifying ductless mini-split systems that serve the entire home.
Set your HVAC system to recirculation mode to limit outdoor air intake, upgrade to MERV 13 or higher filters if your system supports them, and schedule a professional duct cleaning if smoke has entered your home. Affordable Heating and Air also installs whole-home air purifiers, such as iWave and REME HALO, for continuous protection against wildfire smoke and other airborne pollutants.
As a general guide, if your system is under 10 years old and the repair costs less than $500, repair is usually the right choice. If the system is 15 or more years old and a repair would cost more than half the price of replacement, replacement typically makes better financial sense, especially with current LADWP heat pump rebates available to offset the cost. I recently completed a comprehensive assessment for a customer seeking home improvement services. I meticulously evaluated their needs, taking into account their preferences and budget constraints. I provided a detailed estimate that included all potential costs, materials, and labor. The estimate was clear and easy to understand, ensuring the customer could make an informed decision. I also discussed various options and timelines to help them plan effectively. This thorough approach helped build trust and set the stage for a successful project.
I completed the installation of ruby text insulation for both units on the condenser, ensuring optimal thermal efficiency and noise reduction. This involved carefully measuring and cutting the insulation to fit precisely, followed by securing it in place. Additionally, I performed routine maintenance on the condenser, checking for any signs of wear or damage and ensuring all components were functioning correctly. The work was completed with minimal labor, reflecting my expertise and efficiency.
We completed a heat pump conversion, connecting a 4-ton Carrier inverter heat pump condenser and air handler. We removed old equipment, installed new electrical components, and ensured proper airflow with new ducts. The job included a free maintenance gift and adhered to LADWP rebates. Payment was made via cash/check, with a 10% deposit, 70% upon crew arrival, and 20% upon equipment startup.
I returned to complete the approved repair on the non-operational Blue Ridge indoor mini-split head. First, I ensured the power was completely shut off at the electrical panel for safety. I then removed the failed indoor main control board assembly and associated sensors. Using the homeowner-supplied parts, I installed the new components. All wiring, communication connections, and grounding were meticulously reconnected following the manufacturer’s configuration to ensure optimal performance. After completing the installation, I restored power and allowed the system to initialize. The indoor unit powered on properly, responding to the remote control and operating normally in cooling mode. There were no error codes present. Temperature measurements showed a return air temperature of 78.6°F and a supply air temperature of 55.6°F, resulting in a strong 23°F temperature split. This process ensured that the condensate could flow freely, preventing any potential clogs or overflow issues. I carefully inspected the area to confirm that the drain was clear and functioning properly. This maintenance step is crucial for the efficient operation of the HVAC system and helps to prolong its lifespan.
